"Send in the Clowns" instrumental version on classical guitar
Taking a brief diversion from rock songs, here's a solo guitar and bass instrumental version of Stephen Sondheim's famous song for the Broadway musical "A Little Night Music."
As Stephen explained, " "Send in the Clowns' was never meant to be a soaring ballad; it's a song of regret. I wanted to use theatrical imagery in the song, because (the lead in the play, Desireé) is an actress, but it's not supposed to be a circus. It's a theater reference meaning, 'If the show isn't going well, let's send in the clowns'; in other words, 'let's do the jokes' ."
'Many thanks to publishing and the estate of the late Stephen Sondheim for their graciousness with permission for me to perform my instrumental version and tribute of his classic song.

Tom's song about various hypocrisies in the world, inspired by a poster entitled "Why Is It So?" at Wat Umong near Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Changes to help protect the environment - and people - can't happen until special interest lobbying in Washington D.C. is eliminated so that oil and coal won't block efforts toward fossil fuel reduction. Original song lyrics are here... Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground, You in mid-air, Where are the clowns? Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve? One who keeps tearing around, One who can't move, Where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns? Just when I'd stopped opening doors, Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours Making my entrance again with my usual flair Sure of my lines No one is there Don't you love farce? My fault, I fear I thought that you'd want what I want Sorry, my dear! But where are the clowns Send in the clowns Don't bother, they're here Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer? Losing my timing this late in my career But where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns Well, maybe next year

LYRICS ARE HERE! Many different religions Filling up the world with separated faiths We all want peace and happiness To rid our lives of suffering and pain Tell me… Why is it so? People believe conflicting faiths Tolerance won’t cause so much prejudice So tell me why is it so? There are those who claim to be Buddhist Who do not follow teachings of the Buddha And there are those who claim to be Christian Ignoring the words and ways of Jesus Christ Tell me… Why is it so? Hating on different shades of skin We all have the same common goals So tell me why is it so? Elections choose leaders in D.C. Meant to guard the law and serve the land In reality, they’re puppets on strings Forgetting those who need a helping hand So tell me… Why is it so? Big money makes the policies Isn’t government of, by, for the people? So tell me why is it so?

Thank you! btw...Pro rock performers, famous and not, often lower the key center of songs with higher vocal pitches to save the singer from going hoarse during a 2-hour show. They'll also slow down the tempo of songs in large venues with excessive reverberation.

@@TomKrolMusic Absolutely. The last band I was in de-tuned 1/2 step on everything. I'm just a drummer but, took music theory. It helped me a lot. I also slowed down the tempo on pretty much everything. It just sounds better. Thanks man.

LYRICS BELOW! "HONESTY" by Billy Joel, 1978 If you search for tenderness It isn't hard to find You can have the love you need to live But if you look for truthfulness You might just as well be blind It always seems to be so hard to give Honesty is such a lonely word Everyone is so untrue Honesty is hardly ever heard And mostly what I need from you I can always find someone To say they sympathize If I wear my heart out on my sleeve But I don't want some pretty face To tell me pretty lies All I want is someone to believe Honesty is such a lonely word Everyone is so untrue Honesty is hardly ever heard And mostly what I need from you I can find a lover I can find a friend I can have security until the bitter end Anyone can comfort me With promises again I know, I know When I'm deep inside of me Don't be too concerned I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone But when I want sincerity Tell me where else can I turn 'Cause you're the one I depend upon Honesty is such a lonely word Everyone is so untrue Honesty is hardly ever heard And mostly what I need from you
